Welcome to Browning, Montana, the home of the Blackfeet Nation. This small town has a long and storied history, which dates back to the mid-19th century. Browning is the tribal headquarters of the Blackfeet Nation and is in northcentral Montana.

In 1855, the Blackfeet Nation signed the treaty of Hell Gate with the United States government, which officially established the Blackfeet reservation. The reservation was originally located in what is now Glacier National Park, but the tribes were eventually forced to relocate to the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains. In 1895, the Blackfeet established the town of Browning, which became their tribal headquarters.

In the early years, Browning experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to the Blackfeet Reservation. Its population grew quickly, and by 1910 it had become a bustling market town with a variety of businesses including hotels, saloons, restaurants, and stores. However, the town's growth slowed during the 1930s and 1940s due to the Great Depression and World War II.

Today, Browning is an important center of culture and commerce for the Blackfeet Nation. It is home to a variety of businesses, including restaurants, hotels, stores, and museums. It is also home to the Alberta Bair Theater, a renowned performing arts center. Browning is also home to the Browning Public School System, which serves the educational needs of the Blackfeet community.

Browning is the only incorporated town on the Reservation. The town was named in 1885 after Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Daniel M. Browning.

Browning is the setting for the TV-series The X-Files episode "Shapes"
